Traditionally celebrated for its rum and sugarcane products, the Dominican Republichas been making strides in the wine industry. Legend has it that when Hernan Cortez arrived here in 1504, he planted vines in Azua and made the first wine in the Caribbean. The country's only winery is retracing these steps to produce wine in the same location.
